A much-awaited motorcycle in India, the KTM 390 Adventure was revealed today at the EICMA 2019 in Milan, Italy. Rumoured to be launched in our country on the 6th of December, 2019, the bike will be powered by the same engine which also propels the Duke 390 and the RC 390.

10 KTM 390 ADVENTURE MY20 front left

It will feature alloy wheels at both ends, where the front is a 19″ unit while the rear runs a 17-inch. However, it will be wrapped in dual-purpose rubber, which should provide adequate grip on all kinds of surfaces. The KTM Adventure 390 will be manufactured in India and should ask about INR 40,000 – 50,000 more than the Duke 390.

Official Information: The new KTM 390 ADVENTURE has harnessed the attributes and DNA from the popular and highly rated KTM 790 ADVENTURE as well as the development information gleaned from nearly two decades of Dakar Rally success. A breezy, agile, and ideal entry model for riders keen to discover the ‘adventure’ sensation, this motorcycle offers added versatility for touring and light offroading. Using elements of the KTM 390 DUKE as a base, the KTM 390 ADVENTURE offers proximity to the feeling and performance found at the root of the all-conquering KTM 450 RALLY but with crucial A2 license compatibility and current Euro emissions standards as part of the package.

The bike comes fitted with taller, adjustable USD forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Those suspension bits add cushion to a trellis frame. The KTM Adventure 390 also comes fitted with an engine guard and a bash plate underneath. The bike gets a 100/90-19 tyre at the front and a 130/80-17 tyre at the rear. The engine powering this KTM is the same unit as the one which propels the Duke 390. A BS-VI-compliant, 373cc, single-cylinder unit, it makes 44hp  at 9,000rpm and 37Nm at 7,000rpm. Those figures are identical to the Duke, however, there is still no confirmation if KTM has made any alteration to the gear ratios.

In terms of electronics, it will feature an LCD display for instrumentation which also allows pairing with a smartphone via Bluetooth. The fascia gets a Duke 390-like headlight which comes fitted with LEDs for illumination. Protecting the display and the rider from the oncoming wind is a windscreen which appears to be non-adjustable.

The bike gets a stepped seat which appears to be most comfortable saddle we’ve come to see on any KTM on sale in India, so far. This new KTM will also come fitted with knuckle guards and will be competing against the Royal Enfield Himalayan, the BMW G 310 GS and the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 upon launch.

The New Aprilia RS 660 Looks Like It’s All The Fast Fun You Need

The all-new Aprilia RS 660 has been unveiled at the EICMA 2019. Created around a totally new technical base, the motorcycle is powered by a parallel-twin engine and is supported by electronics and technology of the Aprilia Racing department. The firstborn in this brand-new generation of Aprilia bikes, the RS 660 marks the start of a new era for Aprilia.

Aprilia RS 660 Front

Tipping the scales at 169 kilos dry, the RS 660 is powered by a 660 cc twin, capable of delivering 100 hp. The 660 cc motor is a forward-facing parallel-twin which is Euro5 homologated and very compact. It is derived from the front bank of the 1100 cc V4, from which it takes its concepts and measurements. This configuration is chosen due to its compactness and efficiency, due to its very limited transmission of heat to the rider, and the freedom it gives engineers to exploit the spaces and create a slim, lightweight chassis. The DOHC motor gets 270-degree crankpins which promise an exciting weight/power ratio.

side profile

The exhaust system includes a single tailpipe with asymmetric double exit positioned below the engine and contributes to the centralisation of masses. A full electronic suite, directly adapted from those of the Aprilia V4 and which include multimap Ride-by-Wire electronic acceleration for precise throttle management without low-speed stuttering, while also optimising fuel consumption. The RS 660 is equipped with an advanced six-axis inertial platform that gets accelerometers and gyroscopes and records and processes the inputs that result from riding and sends the data to a control unit that intervenes to optimise the control parameters. The Aprilia RS 660 APRC includes:

  • ATC: Aprilia Traction Control
  • AWC: Aprilia Wheelie Control
  • ACC: Aprilia Cruise Control
  • AQS: Aprilia Quick Shift (Up and Down)
  • AEB: Aprilia Engine Brake
  • AEM: Aprilia Engine Map
  • Aprilia cornering ABS

A step-up from entry-level motorcycles, the main physical traits of the styling is typical of Aprilia V4 bikes and include a triple front LED light assembly, complete with perimeter DRL lights positioned on the profile of the two main headlamps. The indicators are integrated into the two DRL profiles and the lighting system also incorporates a twilight sensor, which activates the low beam lights automatically. Additionally, cornering lights illuminate the entire turn when riding.

Aprilia RS 660

Aprilia calls the riding position as comfortable, comprising a spacious seat located on the tapered tail fairing (accessories also include a single-seat tail fairing) which incorporates the passenger seat portion, with correctly raised footpegs and a pair of clip-ons mounted above the upper steering plate. This results in a seat-handlebar-footpeg triangulation that is not overly front-loaded. The RS 660 flaunts a new lightweight structure comprising the frame and swingarm, both in aluminium, with characteristics that are truly unique for the category.

The engine is a load-bearing element, which contributes to a structure that is compact, lightweight and rigid. The particular mounting of the adjustable shock allows for excellent progression even without linkage, for an important weight saving. In designing the frame, Aprilia engineers paid particular attention to the steering headstock area, in order to guarantee the necessary stability on the road, as well as during track usage, while keeping the turning circle to a minimum to facilitate daily riding.

The chassis is suspended by upside-down Kayaba fork with 41 mm stanchions and a braking system comprising, at the front end, a pair of 320 mm steel discs, a pair of radial callipers and a radial cylinder, all by Brembo. The bike also gets a colour TFT digital instrument cluster. The two screens available for selection, Road or Track (both with an automatic night or day backlighting, thanks to the presence of a twilight sensor), correspond with two represented indices. Aprilia MIA, the new Aprilia multimedia platform that allows a smartphone to be connected to the bike, further extending instrument cluster functions, is available as an optional. It also introduces a navigation function, which allows the rider to view directions directly on the instrument cluster having set a journey destination on the smartphone.

Designed to appear aggressive, since it is a concept, it has been fitted with racing slicks and an aggressively upswept rear section which looks the part.

This sub-140 kilo concept will spawn into a new Xtreme motorcycle which will stay true to its USPs of fun, affordability, accessibility and sharp looks. Fitted with a single seat and several other bits which definitely won’t make it to the production bike, expect the styling to be toned down and the motorcycle to be a twin-seater when it makes it to the real world.

In October 2019, the Company despatched 599,248 units of motorcycles and scooters, however, registered highest-ever retail sales in any single calendar month – 12.84 lakh units in October 2019.

This Rebellious Honda Motorcycle Is Seriously Popular In India Even Without Being On Sale

At the ongoing EICMA 2019, Honda Motorcycles got along the CMX 500 Rebel, an entry-level, A2 licence friendly cruiser motorcycle in the European markets. Although there have been hushed voices about the bike going on sale in India in the near future, that hasn’t happened, yet. However, among all the motorcycles revealed at the event, including 200+hp missiles and seriously exotic exotica, guess which one grabbed the most attention and was asked about the most on our social channels? There are no prizes, but you know. Makes us lean towards thinking that simple tastes do bind us together as a nation.

2020 HONDA REBEL

Here’s some technical jazz. The updated, Euro 5-compliant (which should also make it BS6-compliant) Honda Rebel 500 benefits from a revised suspension setup, full LED lighting, a gear position indicator, slipper clutch, a new exhaust and a more comfortable seat. Powering the bike is the same engine as the CBR500R, a 471cc, 8-valve, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor which punches out 43 Nm at 6,000 rpm and 45.5 hp at 8,500 rpm.

2020 HONDA REBEL

For cruising duties, fuel injection mapping has been revised and valve and ignition timings are different, which has made the engine’s character shift away from the high rpm-focused performance of the CBR to a torque-heavy bottom-end output.

2020 HONDA REBEL

Now, that’s good to know data which should tell you that the Rebel 500 is a sort of similar, but a more cruiser-like alternative to the 650 twins. But here’s the interesting part. Just yesterday, Honda 2Wheelers India revealed their aggressive plan to expand its premium footprint in India. The bikemaker will double its portfolio of premium motorcycles from the current 7, taking it up to 13 in the next fiscal. Honda has also revealed that 5 new “Fun” models will be introduced.

2020 HONDA REBEL

Ranging from 300cc to 1800cc, these motorcycles will be the ones which have been globally updated with the latest kit. Honda will also foray into mass production of select big bikes from India, from its current CKD / CBU operations. The bikemaker’s reach across the country will be enhanced as the Silver wing mark will expand its presence from 23 to 75 cities. Remember how the CB300R was launched as a surprise which appeared out of thin air? Could the Rebel 500 be a part of Honda’s magic show in the new year? Our guess is as good as yours.

It will only be upon launch when there will be more clarity if the bikemaker has altered the gearing to suit the character of this adventure motorcycle. With a wheelbase of 1,430 mm, it will one of the longest KTM motorcycles to go on sale in India. For those who feel that this KTM should’ve come fitted with a 21″ front wheel, the plus side to a 19″ wheel is that it offers better on-road dynamics. The bike should also offer power parts and touring accessories upon its launch in India. Our guess is that it will ask for about INR 3 lakh ex-showroom.

With the capital city suffering from a severe level of pollution in the air, citizens and their lungs have been at the receiving end. With the AQI (Air Quality Index) reaching its peak, to curb the pollution level in the city, many air pollution control measures are being executed. For two-wheeler riders, who had no choice but to stay exposed to the toxic air until now, Mavox has introduced helmets which come fitted with an activated carbon filter to keep the air going towards the riders nostrils, clean.

Mavox Air purifying helmets

A part of Sandhar Amkin Industries Pvt Ltd, Mavox Helmets’ range of activated carbon air filter helmets can filter the polluted air to up to 93%. The technology involves usage of activated carbon, also known as ‘Activated Charcoal’, which is charcoal treated with oxygen to open pores of carbon atoms which help it in absorbing certain airborne particles as well as harmful chemicals and gases which leads to poor air quality. The carbon filter present in the helmets attracts the air pollutants and traps them from returning back to the air, resulting in cleaner air to breathe inside the helmet.

The Bimota Tesi H2 Is A Crazy Italian Motorcycle Powered By A Mad Japanese Engine

$

0

Two years ago, Bimota shut shop after finding itself in a financially difficult situation. However, when a company’s profile reads Massimo Tamburini as one of its founders, there are many waiting with a plan to revive things. Which is exactly what has happened and the Kawasaki-owned revival has given birth to the radical motorcycle in the pictures, the Bimota Tesi H2. As the name suggests, the motorcycle, like many Bimotas of yore, is a custom version of the Kawasaki H2.

Bimota TesiH2 trequarti 02 877cad69

Powering the motorcycle is Kawasaki’s 200hp+, 998cc supercharged engine which also powers their flagship, the H2. For this Bimota, the mad motor could develop anything between 200 hp – 300 hp. However, unlike the Trellis frame on the donor bike, the Bimota Tesi H2 bolts its motor inside a bespoke, twin-swingarm chassis. The radical, hub centre steering system is bolted onto a unique, dive-free suspension system which aids more stability to the motorcycle in comparison to conventional systems.

It comprises of two fully-adjustable shocks, where each is mounted on its own adjuster and the system can be used to adjust the ride height of the front and rear of the bike independently. Explains the two Ohlins dampers instead of the one single cylinder we’ve come to see on most top-spec bikes. While one shock takes care of suspension action at the rear wheel, the other appears to handle the front swingarm via a linkage on the left-hand side of the bike

Bimota TesiH2 trequarti retro 01 0a40e1e6

The busy but intricate design is certainly drool-worthy and is full of high-quality components which grant the Tesi H2 ‘Exotic’ status. If only they could’ve used a custom exhaust system instead of the standard pipes from H2, our guess is things could’ve looked even better. And we’d imagine a clean tail instead of the carbon fibre rear tyre hugger. All the other hardware which isn’t machined in-house is also top-spec, including braking components from Brembo. The Tesi H2 does look like it will be sold in limited numbers and will be priced to retain its exclusivity.

Bimota TesiH2 Fronte c91be046

For the uninitiated, Kawasaki has bought a 49.9% stake in Bimota, which was founded in 1973 in Rimini, Italy. The name ‘Bimota’ is derived from the first two letters of the last names of its three founders – Valerio Bianchi, Giuseppe Morri, and Massimo Tamburini. There you go then, the age-old hybrid dream of an Italian motorcycle running Japanese components has just come true.

Jawa Perak Teased Before Its 15th November Launch

Precisely a year after resuscitating the brand in the form of three new motorcycles, Jawa will be launching the third motorcycle which arguably grabbed the most eyeballs at the event last year. The Jawa Perak has been teased before its launch on the 15th of November, 2019. A factory-custom, the teaser image reveals a single-seater’s silhouette, which could mean that the motorcycle will perhaps arrive in the same form as it was first revealed.

Jawa Perak Launch

A bobber version of the 42 and the Jawa, the Perak was initially announced at a price of INR 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom) when it was first revealed a year ago. Compared to its other two cousins, the motorcycle is powered by a larger, 334 cc engine, which is a bored-out version of the same motor seen on the other bikes. This larger engine will be tuned to produce 30 bhp and 31 Nm of torque and come fitted with disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS.

What appears to be a hard-tail, the Jawa Perak does employ a rear monoshock for suspension. There is no subframe bolted to the main chassis and the saddle stays on a tiny extension. Design highlights of the bike include all-black, spoke-type wheels, fatter Pirelli rubber, and a flush-fitting speedometer which is embedded into the headlight nacelle. The handlebar gets bar end mirrors to complete the retro look, however, we think those could be offered as optional.

Jawa Perak

The tail light finds a spot behind the saddle so that there is nothing between your eyes and the beautiful fender. Compared to the other two motorcycles, the Jawa Perak’s engine has been finished in matte black. Where the other two get a chrome-finished twin-pipe setup for releasing exhaust gases, the Perak comes fitted with blacked-out pipes. However, given the upcoming BS-VI norms, our guess is that they won’t be the same as we saw on the bike last year. We’ll keep you updated with all the details from the launch venue. Tune in to our social channels and YouTube post 7 pm on the 15th of November.

The New Benelli Leoncino 800 Gets A Trail Version

At the EICMA 2019, the Benelli Leoncino family found its eldest member in the form of the 800. The same bike also gets a Scrambler version which is called the Leoncino 800 Trail. While the road-biased Leoncino 800 should arrive in India next year, given Benelli India’s new-found enthusiasm, this bike should make it here too. Highlighting the new bike’s ‘built for loose-surface’ credentials are block-pattern tyres and a raised twin-pipe exhaust system which passes through the side panel, just under the seat. Although we’re surprised that there is no engine protection.

Benelli Leoncino 800 Trail side left

Fitted with a 19″ front wheel, powering the Leoncino 800 Trail is a 754-cc twin-cylinder, four-stroke engine which is liquid-cooled and is the same as the one mounted on Leoncino 800. It cranks out 81.6 HP at 9000 rpm and 67 Nm at 6500 rpm. The engine employs twin overhead camshafts with 4 valves per cylinder and two throttle bodies of 43 mm diameter. The bike’s 6-speed gearbox is equipped with a wet, anti-slip clutch.

Benelli Leoncino 800 Trail Rear

To tackle off-road conditions better, the frame follows a trellis architecture and is built from tubular steel. Although the chassis is the same as the road version, the suspension has been upgraded with Marzocchi up-side-down front forks with 50 mm diameter. The forks are adjustable for rebound, compression and pre-load and in comparison to the road version of the bike, at 140 mm, offer 10mm longer travel. At the rear, the single spring is adjustable for preload and rebound damping and offers 140 mm of travel.

Benelli Leoncino 800 Trail front

For the Trail version of the Benelli Leoncino 800, the seat height was raised from 800 mm to 818 mm. Keeping things grippy are Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires, measuring 120/70 19” in the front and 170/60 17” at the rear. Braking force comes from a Brembo braking system, which is the same as Leoncino 800, where the front is fitted with twin 320 mm diameter semi-floating discs and four-piston radial-mount mono-block calliper, and a 260 mm diameter disc at the back with a double piston calliper.

Benelli Leoncino 800 Trail side right

Inside the high-mounted panel rests the bike’s full-LED headlight, featuring the Leoncino series arc. The new double exhaust was developed specifically for the Trail version, as well as the number plate holder and the heat shield on the side, which also bring out the off-road inclination of this model. The Trail version features TFT instruments and the seat is built to ensure comfort even on the toughest terrains. Underneath the seat, consistently with Leoncino 800, there is an aluminium panel which displays the Leoncino logo and on the front fender, the unmistakable symbol of the range: a Lion.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV Joins The Black Badge Range

The new generation of folks with seriously fat wallets has a taste for things which look more dynamic and reflect their personality. No wonder then that even traditional brands like Rolls-Royce are dishing out things which match their liking. Their newest, the Cullinan SUV has joined the luxury carmaker’s Black Badge range, which until now, included the Ghost, the Wraith, and expanded to the Dawn in 2017.

Rolls Royce Cullinan Black Badge_1

An alter ego of the Cullinan, this Black Badge version is coded with the mathematical symbol that represents a potential infinity, which is placed discreetly within the motor car’s interior. This marking, known also as the lemniscate, was applied to Sir Malcolm Campbell’s record-breaking Rolls-Royce-powered Blue Bird K3 hydroplane, denoting that it belonged to an insurance class reserved for boats with unlimited and therefore infinite engine power. No wonder Rolls-Royce selected this hallmark for the Black Badge.

Rolls Royce Cullinan Black Badge 3

Finished in the Black Badge range’s signature black, Rolls-Royce offers 44,000 ‘ready to wear’ paint options or can even commission an entirely individual, bespoke colour. To achieve the most comprehensive surface finish process ever applied to a solid paint colour, multiple layers of paint and lacquer are meticulously applied and hand-polished 10 times at Goodwood. On the prow of the motor car lies the defining expression of Black Badge. The Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, presented in high gloss black chrome. For the first time, this finish extends onto its mounting plate, creating the darkest Black Badge yet.

This treatment extends to the other symbols of the Black Badge – the ‘Double R’ badge on the front, flanks and aft invert to become silver-on-black, the front grille surround, side frame finishers, boot handle, boot trim, lower air inlet finisher and exhaust pipes. While they appear black, the vertical grille bars remain polished, reflecting the blackened surfaces that surround them to add a frisson of movement that hints at the motor car’s dynamic intent. All of this is further dramatised b yall-new 22-inch forged alloy wheels, reserved exclusively for Black Badge Cullinan.

Rolls Royce Cullinan Black Badge_Interiors

The marque’s colour and trim experts blended comfort, bold aesthetics, advanced materials and precise, meticulous craftsmanship. This is embodied by the Black Badge Cullinan’s Technical Carbon veneer. In the spirit of Sir Henry Royce’s founding philosophy, “When it does not exist, design it”, a collaboration between the marque’s designers, engineers and craftspeople saw the creation of a new luxury material. Inspired by masterpieces of urban architecture, a naked-weave carbon-fibre finish has been developed to create highly accurate repeating geometrical shapes. Each leaf of Technical Carbon is finished with six coats of lacquer before being left to cure for 72 hours then hand-polished to Rolls-Royce’s hallmark mirror finish. This process takes 21 days and is only deemed complete once every piece is inspected by a craftsperson to ensure complete reflective uniformity across each of the 23 pieces within the car.

Rolls Royce Cullinan Black Badge_2

The Starlight Headliner’s presence in the Black Badge Cullinan intensifies the cabin’s ambience by casting a low light over the lavish leather seats. Presented in fine Black leather, it has been handwoven with 1344 fibre optic lights. A true reflection of the sky at night, it incorporates eight brilliant white shooting stars that dart at random, predominantly over the front occupants. The Infinity lemniscate motif is embroidered into the fold-down rear arm-and this simple but potent symbol is also incorporated in the illuminated treadplates and engraved on the brushed and darkened steel clock case. Red-tipped clock hands and instrument display needles match the shade of the brake callipers to serve as a reminder of the motor car’s dynamic abilities.

A ‘Low’ button on the gear selection stalk, unlocks the Black Badge Cullinan’s full suite of technologies and amplifies the motor car’s 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 through an entirely new exhaust system. The twin-turbo V12 has been tuned to generate an extra 29 PS, taking the total output to 600 PS. The addition of a further 50NM of torque brings the total to twisting force to 900NM. The Black Badge Cullinan benefits from a bespoke, ZF-sourced, 8-speed transmission and throttle treatment that builds the typical Rolls-Royce experience. Changes to suspension components and settings ensure the Black Badge Cullina strikes a great balance between dynamism and refinement.

In a keynote speech delivered by Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) Euisun Chung at the Mobility Innovators Forum (MIF) 2019, the Group announced its commitment to realize innovation for the progress of humanity.

Hyundai At the Mobility Innovators Forum

The Group, which includes Hyundai and Kia, believes that technology and innovation should be directed towards serving the needs of people. So this year’s theme, human-centred mobility, was chosen to highlight the importance of designing new mobility concepts that support the flourishing of people and their communities. Rolling back to present times, the carmaker will introduce new generation models of the Creta, Verna and the i20 hatchback in India. Like most others, the carmaker’s diesel-powered cars will command a premium over its BS-IV predecessors and carlines like the i10 Nios and Xcent will most probably only offer petrol-only variants.
