Us Indians love to show-off. That explains the lopsided looks of the Eon and the Alto 800- frugal, low-cost cars which were never meant to be styled too much. In Japan however, things are different and slightly functionality oriented. The next JDM Alto has been uncovered in a catalog, and looks alarmingly simplistic- something that’d have brickbats thrown at it in India.
The Japanese kei car has a very small size, measuring as little as 3.4 meters in length. The look is minimalist and functional, with a whiff of tall boy proportions and a large glasshouse. The front fascia is bare, and the grille is just not there. Instead there’s an asymmetrically placed set of three thin slits and a smart pair of headlamps. At the rear, the new Alto gets commercial vehicle friendly, utilitarian tail lights placed on the bumper.
The dashboard looks pretty neat too, with a center console mounted drive selector for the CVT. The engine is reportedly a 0.66 liter unit delivering 52 hp or 64 hp (turbo version), and is mated to the CVT and AWD as well.
