Maruti Suzuki continues its strong showing across the segments that matter. Even with international carmakers firing all cylinders by introducing new products across the lengths and breadths of value segments, MSIL simply refuses to relinquish its leading position. For the month of November, as many as 6 out of the 10 top selling car models belonged to Maruti.  Leading the charts as usual was the Alto, the all-time bestseller of the Indian car market, moving more than 24,000 units for the month. The introduction of the new K10 model with AMT strengthened its positioned further, adding about 3,000 units to the numbers over October 2014.

The Swift, which was relegated to the fourth spot in October 2014, reclaimed its second spot, shifting close to 18,000 units. Wagon R, the quintessential Indian tall-boy moved around 13,500 units. The Dzire, which was in the second spot for October, swapped places with the Swift for fourth position with a little more than 12,000 units sold.

Hyundai Elite i20 still static (10)

The newly introduced Elite i20 is going strong and claimed the fifth spot, followed by the Grand i10. The two models sold about 10,500 and 8,400 units respectively. The City has emerged a clear winner for Honda, selling more than 7200 units. The City was overtaken by the Ciaz for the month of October, but the Honda model made a grand comeback for November outselling the Maruti by over 2000 units. The Ciaz stood in ninth position with around 5200 units sold.

The eighth and tenth positions have been taken by the Eon and Celerio, moving 6600 and 4900 units respectively.

That sums up the sales numbers of the top 10 car models in the Indian car market. Maruti Suzuki has very smartly filled the little voids which were allowing new players some space in the volumes segment. The Celerio and Ciaz have been successful, and along with the established MSIL models have strengthened its position in the industry, stemming the slide it was witnessing sometime back.

The upcoming YRA hatchback, along with the S-Cross and the XA-Alpha SUV should further boost Maruti’s share in the mainstream segments. The rivals will really have to do something really special this India specialist, which thus far has responded to every challenge thrown at it with elan.
